The Wollman Rink is an ice rink built for the public in Central Park, Manhattan, New York City. The rink opened in 1949, funded by Kate Wollman who donated $600,000 for the rink to commemorate her family from Kansas. In 1980, the rink was closed down due to maintenance restraints according to Mayor Ed Koch. In 1985, the citizens of New York were trying to reopen the rink, however, Koch’s commissioners and contractors faced many problems during the process of renovating the rink.

In June 1986, Trump offered to fund the project to fix up the Wollman Rink before Christmas time. In November 1986, before Christmas, Trump succeeded in restoring the Wollman Rink and was called a hero at the time. Today, the famous Wollman Rink is operated by the Trump Organization.
